This thread is dedicated to explaining what the different regions of my world are and explaining any well known rumors/going ons. Starting PC's generally will have heard of whatever rumors are from their region.
Palantyne (LG) - Middle Europe(Spain, France, Germany)/England
-This Kingdom is most like that of stereotypical fantasy. In terms of Lord of the Rings it is comparable to Gondor (with a King instead of Stuart) Its national language is the Trading tongue (common)
Rumors - As of the recent disappearance of the gods Divine magic has become rather scarce. The kingdom does however have access to a priest of Pelor who still has access to divine magic. The 10 year annual battle of spells and swords is approaching which will determine the new grand champion and leader of the spell swords. However, factions seem to be arising among the spellswords who in the past have always been loyal to each other. The Greyhelm family whose keep guards the borderlands between Aktenor and Palantyne have found reason to believe that there may soon be an attempt to annex their territory.
Methilein (NG)- This land has culture more similar to that of the Irish/Scots/Gauls. In terms of Lord of the Rings it could be compared to Rohan. They also typically speak the trading tongue but have some variants throughout. The kingdom is made up of a large number of smaller kingdoms which are fiercely loyal to each other and contain some queendoms and even a small democracy.
Rumors - Recently the kingdoms on the coast were given warning of a massive fleet of pirates that threatened their coastal cities. While pirate activity did slightly increase it was not to the degree expected although this was likely partially due to their navy being prepared for the attack. Even more recently however ships have been disappearing into the foggy mists.
Aktenor (LE)- Aktenor is a magocracy which split off from Palantyne some years back. The kingdoms have not ever been on good terms since then but have rarely gone to war. It is in many ways similar to Thay (Forgotten Realms).
Rumors- Clerics of Tiamat have been vying for power. There has been serious thought to allowing one onto the mages council. There has been serious talk of expanding trade trade to new extraplanar regions.
Kaazka (N)- This kingdom is very similar to that of Arabia or Persia. The city revers the sky and the divine. Bahamut(LG- Sky/Full Moon), Pelor (NG- sun), Tiamat (LE - New Moon), and Lilith (CE - Darkness) are all popular dietys.
Rumors - The Grand Vizier has announced that new trade routes are being opened with the Kingdom of Izmet to the south and guards for caravans are being searched out. The dervishes who guard the surrounding area are looking for new recruits as their forces were devastated in the recent war. They also have a new leader who recently returned from the north and have headquarters at an Oasis to the west of the capital.
Doma (LN)- This kingdom is far to the east. There is a large island between its main continent and the campaign's main continent. It is based strongly on L5R, Japan, and China.
Rumors - The emperor has announced a tournament which will take place between the champions of the different clans.
Izmet (LE)- is very similar to Egypt. They live in the desert even further south than Kaazka and worship their Pharaoh as a god.
Rumors - A new God-King has arisen as his predecessor was slain by a group of demons.
Plainsmen - Similar to native Americans with many different groups.
Rumors - Spirits walk the land of the living. There is a new lich-king which has been walking the lands collecting bodies to serve him.
Northerners - Mostly made up of Viking type barbarians. There is also a group called the Renshai who live on an island off the coast and almost exclusively worship Sif. They refuse to use magic items or armor of any kind (exception being magic swords with enhancements and keen only) and yet are still found to be some of the most powerful warriors on the continent. Other Viking groups often fight with them over matters of honor.
Rumors - Ragnarok has come to pass and the gods were victorious. Soon they will return to us. Giants however do seem every more prevalent in the mountains.
Elven Kingdom (CG)- Made up of two different sub-kingdoms. The high elves rule the elven forests while the valley (gray) elves live in the mountains to the far west. While the groups have always been on good terms the valley elves have always been strongly isolationist.
Rumors - A new group of elves has been contacted but reaching them seems nearly impossible. They were however freed from the Elder Green Dragon which had enslaved them. There is a dark blight which is running rampant through the lands of the valley elves and they have contacted their eastern cousins for help.
Dwarven Kingdom (LGn) - The dwarves mostly live in the mountains to the north but there is also a clan in the kingdom of Doma. Every 7 years all the different dwarven kings convene in a meeting to discuss dwarven affairs. The different dwarven kings tyupically try not to interfere with each other but all will bow to the will of the current wielder of the ax of the dwarven lords (currently the mountain dwarf king).
Rumors - More and more aberrant monsters seem to be coming up from the depths of the underdark. So far they have been fought off but it seems this might be the precursor to a war.
