Session 23: April 11-May 3, 1 Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room full of cats...
Upon their return to the academy, the group immediately went to see Larael with the news that they would be able to restore her eyes (except for Martigan who felt he had earned a night of drinking). After finding her in the main dining hall and reporting to the chancellor, they and a large group of observers went straight to sickbay where Anselm, the academy's medic, administered the salve. After watching Larael's eyes grow back Thranduil asked only that in thanks she allow him to bring her out for drinks to which she reluctantly agreed. After leaving the infirmary Thranduil and Ouro ran into Ara, the bard who was to have taken Dibigo's place teaching during his leave of absence. She was humming a strange tune while surrounded by seemingly hypnotized cats inluding a large cougar. Upon their arrival she muttered something which Thranduil took as "They're coming..." before running off leaving Thranduil and Ouro to defend themselves against the cougar. Afterwards they were unable to find Ara but when Thranduil returned to show the chancellor the cougar, there was nothing, not even a splash of blood left. Suspicious of Thranduil, Di'riath sent him to the infirmary for observation.
Over the next few weeks things pregressed relatively normally for those at the academy except that Ara had disappeared. Not even the master of divination was able to find any clues of her whereabouts. However, eventually Thranduil once again began noticing cats. This time he gathered Dibigo, Ouro, and Griswald to investigate and between the four of them they were able to find a hidden passage where Thranduil had lost track of the cats. As they passed through they were immediately attacked by a huge tiger. Suspicious that Thranduil's paranoia of cats might actually mean something, they continued on through the passages to another room where they found a group of cougars, cats, and what dibigo recognized as a were tiger. Thranduil was suprised and pleased when his sword was easily able to injure the creature and soon the group was able to kill it. Continuing on they found another room. This one contained more cougars, another weretiger (apparently sibling to the first), a pair of dire lions, and sitting humming the same tune Thranduil had been obsessing over since hearing he sing it weeks earlier, was Ara, sitting with a large panther next to her. Dibigo attempted to speak with her but she only responded by mumbling something about "they're coming, they're here..." Before the rest of the large cats in the room attacked. However, even with the bard inspiring the feline army they were soon able to incapacitate those which did not flee. After this they brought the unconcious Ara to the Chancellor to explain the situation. He verified she had been afflicted by some sort of magical insanity and while he had not way to cure it himself the master of divination offered her expertise to hopefully find a way to cure the woman in the near future.
