I am making this thread to set up the annual Battle of Spells and Swords. For those who don't know what it is, this is a tournament held by the Spellswords each year to determine their ranking. There is tournament held every 10 years to determine the Supreme Champion, which happens to be this year. Anyone who wants one or multiples of their PC's to show up is welcome. There are 2 different tournament groups. One for non casters which anyone can enter for fun. The other is specifically only for those who have joined the Spellswords as this one is to determine rank. The tournament is held at the Spellswords' Chapterhouse which sits in the borderlands or Methelein and Palantyne. In game time, the tournament begins on the first of August.
Wherever a PC is listed below, if his group came up with a name, the group name is listed as in character, thats how they would likely be known, anyone who wants a fancier desccription can send me one and I will edit it in.

Thranduil Tharavor - an elven Bladesinger who is also a prince
Soren Bozendorfer - A halfling sorcerer barbarian
Battle of Spells and Swords - The first oneshot: August 1-8, 1
As the tournament progressed, many spellswords showed great talent for melee and magic. Eva found herself to be hard pressed in many of her matches being much more used to throwing wellplaced daggers at her opponents while they were engaged by other opponents. Her most amazing victory however ended up being against Mia Fanglehorn and her huge familiars. The rogue was pinned down by the familiars as Mia cast spells to strenthen them. She was finally after fighting desperately with her shortsword and being chased around the battle field she was finally able to incapacitate the familiars and begin to fight Mia herself who steped forward wielding a longsword. Even with the familiars gone, Eva was exausted and things looked grim until finally she was able to land a lucky swing to the side of Mia's head, knocking her out.
Thranduil, as a bladesinger had a much easier time being used to fighting in melee. He was able to finish off a highly ranked opponent, Desin Trelaway, who after being severly wounded forfeited the match. He kept up his streak for a long time until finally losing to Haile herself.
Soren also made a name for himself in his first match. Despite being made fun of before the tournament began, he had a nearly flawless victory, begining with a fireball across the field at his opponent and then beating him unconcious with a staff.
After the matches Thranduil congradulated both Eva and Soren on their matches, glad to see that the elven kingdom was making a good showing. After this they spent a good amount of the tournament while they were not fighting watching the other matches together. During the last day of the tournament Orphen fougth Haile and recieved his one loss of the tournament ending the match by disappearing in a magnificent explosion. Eva was somewhat annoyed as the loss cost her a large sum of money in a bet against Thranduil. However, just as the next match, that of Derek Ranel and Haile was about to begin, a bolt of lightning tore the skies assunder opening a hole in reality. Stepping through the tear was a massive red wyrm, several hundered feet tall, upon which sat a fair skinned woman with green eyes and blond hair streaked with red. In a voice heard by the entire tournament field she declared that the keep would be the instrument of her vengence. Moments later devils and more dragons poured through the tear and began to attack.
Spellswords and spectators charged forward against the dragons and devils in a great clash of swords and scales. Orphen reappeared and fired a arrow at the massive red dragon which although left a path of butterflies in its wake knocked the dragon backward. Eva, Thranduil, and Soren fought against a massive blue dragonesq creature carrying a 20 foot long sword (bluespawn godslayer) and several erinyes soon banishing the creatures. Moments later they saw the fairskinned woman fly down and drive Orphen away from the wyrn he was fighting as Derek Ranel ran up to them he needed them to guard one of the vaults inside the keep as the more powerful spellswords defended against the creatures outside. Handing them a map of part of the keep and a gem he said "this will let you see the truth of things", before running off towards the rest of the battle.
Eva led the way into the keep followed by Thranduil and Soren. As the group entered the main foyer a wall was blasted open leaving them face to face with a pit fiend and a large green dragon. The pitfiend begain to conjure a firestorn to anihilate the group but just as it began to expand toward them a knight in mithril armor riding a silver dragon (Aaron from Last Warning) flew into the room using the dragon's icy breath the quench the fire before charging back at the pit fiend and puching it back out of the keep. The group finding themselves still facing the green dragon scattered causing it to only be able to catch Eva with its noxious breath which she easily avoided, backflipping out of the way. They then closed in from all sides pinning down the dragon. Eva attacked at its flanks as Thranduil pierced through its scaled hide with his elven thinblade and Soren pummeled it with its staff soon leaving the beast dead.
The group then found a large runed path blocking their way. Thranduil examined it for a moment and declared that he knew the safe path through the runes and hopped through them to the other side, followed by Eva and then Soren. They then ran through the maze like corridors following Eva's map until they came to a large library-like room with an efreet, and red robed wizard, two chain devils, and a massive chain golem. Thranduil and Soren attacked the devils and efreet as Eva attacked the wizard. Soon the devils were banished and the efreet had fled back into the ring from which it had been summoned leaving the chain golem and wizard. Soren and Thranduil fought the chain golem but found it very hard to injure until Eva finally killed the wizard commanding it after which it collapsed in a heap. Thranduil spent a short time speaking with the efreet and trying to make a bargain with it until finally convincing it to serve him in exchange for freedom from the ring.
The group then continued through the keep, finally coming to the room they had been commissioned to guard only to have Derek come up behind them and tell them they were needed upstairs and he would takeover guarding the room. Suspicious, Thranduil looked at him through the gem he had been given earlier only to see a gelugon, or icy devil. He looked at his companions, nodded, and then charged, joined by his companions seconds later. Unfortunately the devil was not alone. out of the shadows scrambled a fifteen foot tall carrion crawler, apparently a pet of the devil. Thranduil fought the carrion crawler aided by the efreet and Soren and Eva fought the devil. After a pitched battle, they were able to finish off the pair and were able to set up defenses to defend the room from further intrusions.

Heimdal Varson - A northerner cleric of Thor. In times where the goes seem to have abandoned the world, his spells are true miracles.
Michael Bourne - A human rogue with several alter egos who has a hard time keeping himself out of trouble.
Jengul Morrow - A dwarven wizard who recently left a life as a miner and has been traveling with Garruk.
Lothar Gunnerson - A barbarian from the north.
Battle of Spells and Swords - Champions of Thor!: July 22 - August 8, 1
Having spent several months in Stormport Yumil declared his intention to head west to join the spellswords and enter their tournament. Jengul also showed interest and the rest of the group decided to accompany them.
After a few weeks of travel across the Palantinian plains the group found themselves traveling alongside another barbarian from the north. He introduced himself as Lothar and when they found he was also traveling to the Battle of Spells and Swords, the group invited him to join them for the time being. The trip turned out much more eventful than expected however, as Heimdal, hearing the sound of battle, led the group into a grove where they found a large number of goblins and several hobgoblins attacking a unicorn. The goblins proved to be no match for the Champions of Thor and the group was able to save the unicorn. Moments later its form changed to that of a beautiful elven woman who thanked them for their help before offering each a minor boon and a warning to them as a whole: "The path they currently walked was fraught with danger." Upon hearing this, Michael immediately tried to get the group to turn around but was as usual ignored and dragged along.
Upon reaching the tournament fields, they found tents stretching as far as they could see, from humble lean-tos to giant pavilions, along with merchants makeshift taverns and even partially set up "inns" all surrounding the keep of the spellswords. It seemed almost like a city had sprung up in the plains. Heimdal led his companions to the keep where Michael and Lothar slipped off, the former hopping to join some of the gamblers and the latter looking for strong liquor. Meanwhile Heimdal, Yumil, and Jengul continued into the keep where they eventually met the spellsword Derek Ranel. In inducted Yumil and Jengul into the spellswords, giving them the appropriate tests and spoke with Heimdal, asking him for help with healing between matches during the tournament which Heimdal was willing to provide.
During the actual tournament Michael and Lothar met backup with their companions to watch the matches with Michael breaking even through his betting. However, just as one of the final matches was about to begin, that of Derek Ranel and Haile the invincible, a bolt of lightning tore the skies asunder opening a hole in reality. Stepping through the tear was a massive red wyrm, several hundred feet tall, upon which sat a fair skinned woman with green eyes and blond hair streaked with red. In a voice heard by the entire tournament field she declared that the keep would be the instrument of her vengeance. Meanwhile the champions of Thor fought a small group of devils. As their skirmish ended they were approached by a bloodied Derek Ranel who asked them to escort a group of civilians off the battlefield. Unfortunately, there was a catch they would either have to get past a large white dragon or a frost giant, which blocked the two safest routes. The group unanimously decided to go after the giant (Something about Thor hating them...) and set off, soon finding themselves face to face with a huge snow white wolf and the frost giant which they had been told of. Lothar charged the wolf while Jengul blasted it with fire. Meanwhile Heimdal attacked the giant as Michael fired arrows at it. Lothar was able to kill the wolf at which point he and Jengul joined the fight against the giant which had seriously injured Heimdal. Heimdal however had managed to knock the weapon from its hand and Michael had even tumbled forward to help the wounded cleric. Together they were finally able to kill it as Heimdal smashed the monster's knee bringing it down to a place where he could bash out its brains as Lothar's axe severed its spine.
